There are several issues with the gross amount of consumption of rice throughout the world the latest of which is the high amounts of arsenic. Dartmouth researchers to contain dangerously high amounts of arsenic, has now been directly linked to arsenic-induced genetic damage, blogger Deborah Blum reports inDiscover Magazine.

Although the new research, reported last week in Scientific Reports, is the first to show a direct link, past studies have shown that arsenic in rice is absorbed into the body, Blum reports, citing a 2011 study by Margaret Karagas, an epidemiologist and professor of community and family medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine, and her Dartmouth colleagues.
